Garmish-Partenkirchen
Around 1935 the 1100 year old villages of
Garmisch & Partenkirchen were asked
by Hitler to combine into one town the Mayor's both said NO.
Hitler forced them to join together. They HAD to combine into one
for the 1936 winter Olympic's. After the winter Olympic games they stayed together
because of the money that they made. When a Garmisch man wanted
to marry a Partenkirchen girl ( or visa versa)
the fathers of the bride
and groom had to
come together and decide if they wanted their children to marry
if they didn't want them to get married they were not allowed to do so.
Most people refere to the twin villages as Garmisch much to the dismay of the residents Patrenkirchen.
Garmisch is a bit more modernized. Where as Parenkirchen is still quiet with cobbelstone streets
Both villages have painted murals on most of the homes. These murals are very pretty to look at and last up to 100 years.
